I've worked at The Theatre Centre — a Toronto-based nonprofit live arts producer and venue — since November 2019. I'm currently the marketing and publicity manager handling media relations & email campaigns, ad buys, brand direction, content creation, and social media. Sometimes I also take on freelance work.
I led publicity and digital marketing strategies to reopen The Theatre Centre in September 2021 after an 18-month closure. The Theatre Centre opened to a sold-out 5-day comedy festival and coverage in The Globe and Mail. Our reopening strategy included:
2) A shift in the organization's visual esthetic and voice: As lead web and social copywriter and editor of the community newsletter, I updated our style guide and introduced higher standards for visual content and copy, refreshing the brand image to appeal to younger online audiences. I also hosted interviews and commissioned writing from artists, activists, and community members for publication.
3) A dynamic grassroots publicity strategy: In addition to designing a creative press deck and electronic press kit, we adapted the press release into a scripted shareable video for web and social. I also secured promotional agreements with local companies, BIAs, and other arts organizations to help spread the word.
Recently, I led campaigns for the multimedia live art festival Hybrid by Design (May 2022) and The Theatre Centre's 22/23 programming announcement. I was also the event manager for our hybrid announcement party in August 2022 and had so much fun — I'd love to produce more live events in the future.
Progress, an international festival of performance and ideas, brings some of the world's most innovative contemporary performance work to Toronto. I created content and managed the social media communities for both SummerWorks and The Theatre Centre's Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts. I also worked with Monnet Design and several curatorial partners to copy write and edit this festival program.
Nov 2019-Feb 2020
For director Julianna Notten's Netflix/Telefilm-funded feature ERIN'S GUIDE TO KISSING GIRLS (2022), I scouted and worked with photographers to create promotional content. I also bought a six-pack of disposable cameras for the cast and crew to document the 14-day shoot—it's was a fun, low-effort, and cost-effective way to capture the memories while creating great social content. In addition to copywriting and managing social media, I also handle the production's grassroots promotions and
I was the digital media and publicity lead at Sarnia's South Western International Film Festival for two years. Maintaining strong working relationships with local media, influencers, and companies was the most critical aspect of my role. In 2020, we launched a crowdfunding campaign and reached our $4000 goal in three days totaling $8000+ by the end of the month-long campaign. I handled social media copywriting, content creation, and media relations during the campaign and festival. I also edited the 2020 festival trailer for web, social, and streaming.
Oct 2018-Dec 2020
For Manifesto Community Project's 15th anniversary, I produced a short documentary featuring Black artists, journalists, and music execs celebrating the organization's
impact on Toronto's music scene.
I coordinated shooting schedules and hosted on-camera interviews. The doc premiered at the 2021 Manifesto Festival launch party headlined by Jid, Savannah Ré, and Notif.
I've also worked with the Toronto International Film Festival, Corus Entertainment, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival, TARO PR, Sisterhood Media, NEON, and Warner Bros.
Plus, I have degrees if you care about that kind of thing:
